Ann Handley, Chief Content Officer, MarketingProfs, and Co-Author of Content Rules held a webinar focusing on why writing matters, tips & tricks to become a better, more confident writer, and how writing and journalism fundamentals turn meh content into something worth writing home about in her webinar, The Non-Boring, Actionable & Useful Writing Rules for PR. This topic is important to PR professionals and has been sponsored by Cision, where PR and Media Connect. Cision is the perfect credible sponsor for this webinar because it’s the spot where communicators turn to help target their pitches, connecting with audiences and monitoring coverage and measuring results. It’s also the place where members of the media turn to find leads, specific coverage, and to discover professional opportunities while gaining industry insights.
The purpose of the webinar focuses on how to write better and creating ridiculously good content. Ann Handley believes writing is a fundamental of communicating and has focused her content on what people think writing is, what writing actually is, what “good writing” isn’t, that there is no one way to write, and the reasoning behind why writing matters in PR.
“Just like a solid carpenter knows how to use a hammer that he may keep in his truck, I think all of us as PR professionals, marketers, and communicators really need to know how to write incredibly well. Writing is not not one of those things that are reserved for a gifted few.” – Ann Handley
Ann Handley is an engaging presenter and kept the focus of why writing rules in PR interesting and formal. The webinar achieved its goals of informing the viewer on the professional and human reasons that writing matters in PR. The webinar also shows that content is the corner store of marketing. Everybody out there is creating content it’s really hard to break through and be unique. The outcome of the webinar shows that in reality, companies who are killing it with content and social media don’t have a strategy! Only 44% of those marketers say they have a content strategy, and only 42% of marketers say their content is effective.

Understanding the importance of written communication in public relations practice will assist you in making good corporate policies. With properly structured written communication, there is less room for misinterpretation than with verbal communication.” Thanks to Ann Handley’s PR writing rules future PR communication can be improved.

Southington, CT- Gina Bianca Hair is a brand new, state of the art hair salon located in Southington, CT. The salon is just minutes off of I84 and seconds off 691! Gina Bianca Hair is a modern, upscale salon with an inviting environment. The salon specializes in hair color, is available to all budgets, and is affordable for color maintenance. The salon was built on the idea as if Gina was the client. She incorporated espresso, and cappuccino machines for clients while they wait. Along with the sinks being designed to provide the client with a comfortable experience. When you walk into the salon the atmosphere is very tranquil and relaxing.
Prior to the salon opening Gina, the owner, has been building her brand for about 4 years. She says,” I used to wash peoples hair out of my kitchen sink.” From there she began renting a chair out for 2 years until she opened GBH. Even though the salon hasn’t been open for a long period of time, Gina Bianca Hair has gotten involved with the community! By supporting the Independence Fund GBH was able to help raise almost $8500 to wounded veterans.
As you can see Gina Bianca Hair has amazing qualities and that is why I will be planning and developing a PR campaign to help the salon grow and increase ROI. I will be working alongside the owner, Gina to help grow her brand as well as providing steps for her future salon expansion. There are several opportunities that Gina can take to build her brand awareness and the clientele entering the salon. Luckily, Gina Bianca Hair has a great following on Instagram!
The steps I have taken so far to analyze Gina Bianca Hair’s target audience is I conducted primary research in form of a survey. Gina sent this survey out via email to here clientele as well posted it through Facebook. The survey gave me a clear picture on Gina’s target audience and what they expect from a salon. These results will be used to create an engaging campaign!
